This is a special election to fill the vacancy left by the appointment of previous Representative Eric Eisnaugle to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. This seat was uncontested Republican in last year's general election, but the Democrats are fielding one candidate to contest it this time around in the hopes of throwing a monkey wrench into what is likely to be a low-turnout special election. We can give both fossil parties some heartburn by showing up with a serious effort ourselves, since there is no true organized Democrat opposition and the Republicans are focused on the primary rather than the general.
